| Housed within the DCRI are two premier research
groups at the forefront of health economics, quality of life,
and outcomes research. The Outcomes Research and Assessment
Group and the Center
for Clinical and Genetic Economics (CCGE) represent the nation’s
foremost collaborations of experts in these increasingly crucial
aspects of clinical research.
DCRI outcomes researchers lead the nation in the collection
and analysis of economic and quality-of-life data for clinical
research and have conducted large studies in a dozen therapeutic
areas, including breast cancer, geriatrics, AIDS, and cardiovascular
disease.
Our investigators have developed decision models for seriously
ill patients, preference assessment instruments for patients
with stroke and severe head injury, and performance profiles
of healthcare providers, hospitals, and payers. DCRI outcomes
leaders also help maintain the Duke Databank for Cardiovascular
Disease, the largest collection of cardiovascular outcomes
data in the world, as well as the Society
of Thoracic Surgeons’ National Cardiac Surgery Database.
These extensive capabilities have the same aim: to improve
the care of patients through the advancement of clinical knowledge.
