Dr. Califf named as Distinguished Scientist for 2009

The American Heart Association (AHA) recognized six leading researchers as Distinguished Scientists for 2009 for their research that has advanced the understanding of cardiovascular disease and stroke. The researchers were named in the Fall 2009 issue of the AHA Connections newsletter.

Rob Califf, MD, FAHA, director of the Duke Translational Medicine Institute, was one of the researchers selected. The six designees will be recognized on November 15 during the opening session of the AHA 2009 Scientific Sessions.

Dr. Califf was recognized for contributions to cardiovascular research made possible by the Duke Databank for Cardiovascular Disease. The databank has been used to create models that predict the presence of coronary artery disease, along with predicting the severity of the disease. Dr. Califf is regarded as an international leader in health outcomes, quality of care, and medical economics.
