The Center for Clinical and Genetic Economics
(CCGE), established in 1999 in the Duke
Clinical Research Institute, evaluates costs, outcomes, and
quality of life in clinical trials; studies physician and patient
decision making; and conducts health services research in such areas
as access to care, geographic variation, and managed care. The group
also explores important issues in research accountability, bioethics,
and the implications of new technologies for drug development and
health services delivery. Information from these studies can help
to improve the choices that policy makers and health care professionals
make when they use the resources of a society, a health system,
or an individual for health care interventions.
